Terms of use

Effective 7 September 2026

Riccardo Spagni operates Nines from South Africa. These terms apply to the Nines app, the online game service and this website. Use Nines only if you can agree to these terms under the law that applies to you.

The app

Nines is a card game and scorekeeper for Williams Rules. It supports solo practice, local scorekeeping and online games. It does not offer gambling, cash prizes or real-money wagering.

You may install and use the app for personal play, subject to the licence and rules of the store from which you obtain it. Apple’s standard app licence applies to copies distributed through the App Store unless the store listing specifies another licence.

Playing online

The service assigns a label such as Player 1 to each online seat. It does not support freeform names or chat. Do not abuse the service or try to access another player’s private cards or credentials.

A room code lets others join an open lobby. Share it with your group. Your seat is tied to credentials saved on your device; there is no account password to reset. Removing app data or losing the device can prevent you from returning to that seat.

The host controls when a ready lobby starts and can end or delete the game. Online games expire 90 days after their last game or lobby change. The service is not a permanent archive.

Age-restricted features

Private online play and missed-move replay are available at every age. Turn notifications are available from age 13. Card scans and personal API key setup are available from age 18, subject to the provider’s eligibility rules. The app asks for an age group before you use these features and saves your choice on the device. Give the correct age group and update it in Settings if necessary.

Scores and card recognition

Card recognition can make mistakes. Check the detected ranks and total before you confirm a scan. You can correct a score or enter it manually. Nines does not guarantee that a scan or a recorded score is accurate.

Camera scans require an internet connection and a recognition provider. Provider availability, supported models and usage limits may change. If you use your own API key, you are responsible for its provider account, limits and charges.

Availability and saved games

Local practice and manual scorekeeping can work offline. Online moves, scans and push notifications depend on network access and external services. Notifications may arrive late or fail to arrive, so open the app to check the current game state.

Nines may change to fix faults, support new devices or protect the service. Access may be restricted if necessary to prevent abuse or comply with the law. No uninterrupted service or recovery of deleted game data is promised.

Privacy and other services

The privacy policy describes the data each feature uses. Cloudflare, OpenRouter, model providers, Apple and Google operate services that have their own terms. These terms do not replace those agreements.

Your legal rights

Nines is provided as available. To the extent the law permits, no additional warranty is given for availability, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing here excludes consumer rights, mandatory warranties or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. South African law governs these terms, subject to any mandatory protections that apply where you live.

Changes to these terms

The current terms and effective date appear on this page. Material changes will take effect prospectively. Contact support if you need help with a change or with the app.
